Clubs & Organizations

The first religious organization in Baldwin was a Methodist society established in 1818. Services were held in people’s homes and led by circuit preachers until a church was built in 1852. The Union Church was free to use by all Christian denominations. There were also churches in Hicks and on Oak Hill. Various social clubs were organized in the 19th century including a local chapter of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union and the North Chemung Grange No. 227. In the 1930s, a 4-H Club camp operated in North Chemung on the farm of E.S. Courtright. Adults participated in baseball clubs in the early 1900s and, in 1976, a little league team was formed.
