Churches and Schools
The first church in Veteran was the Methodist Church in Millport, established in 1832. A Methodist class was started in Sullivanville the same year but a church was not constructed until 1855. Methodists in Pine Valley began meeting in 1858. The Veteran Ridge Free Will Baptist Church was organized in 1836. Baptist churches were also established in Millport in 1844 and in Pine Valley in 1867. Some of the early congregations met in local schoolhouses before churches were built. By 1868, Veteran had 17 school districts. Most had one-room schoolhouses that were used until 1950 when the schools were consolidated with the Horseheads Central School District.
