Community Organizations

In the years after World War I Americans joined a variety of community organizations.  These groups provided a sense of stability during a time of rapid social, cultural, and political change, providing members with a sense of purpose and promoting particular visions of an ideal society.  While some were strictly local in their focus, others engaged with a broader, national agenda.  Elmira was home to many of these organizations, including youth groups, men’s groups, and community health programs.
