Big Flats Town Parks

Community Park

River Street and Main Street, Big Flats

 

The Community Park offers pavilions, restrooms,

electricity, water, picnic tables, charcoal grills, a

BBQ pit, playground equipment, volleyball pits,

baseball and softball fields, and a walking path.

The Community Park Extension at Route 352

and Winters Road offers the same facilities and

equipment plus a soccer field.

 

Sperr Memorial Park

Kahler Road, Elmira

New York State Trooper Andrew J. Sperr was

killed in the line of duty on March 1, 2006. A

community park was built at the site where he

lost his life. The park includes a half-mile

walking trail around a pond lined with benches,

a playground, a pavilion, a gazebo, an overlook,

and a monument.

 

Rails to Trails

Kahler Road, Big Flats

 

The Big Flats Trail is open for walking, running, and bicycling. The main trailhead can be accessed off Kahler Road at Sperr Park. To the west, the trail runs to Winters Road and to the east, it ends just before reaching Big Flats Road.

 

Hillview Park

Greenwood Circle, Big Flats

 

This neighborhood park offers a playground, benches, a picnic pavilion, and tennis courts.

 

Maple Shade Park

Algonquin Drive, Big Flats

 

This park include a playground, a pavilion with picnic tables, a field, and a small basketball court.

 

Barnes Hill Park

Woodland Way, Big Flats

 

This park has a pavilion with picnic tables and charcoal grills and playground equipment.

 

Fawn Acres Park

Meadow Drive, Big Flats

 

This community park has a playground and basketball court.

 

Golden Glow Heights Park

Bennett Road, Big Flats

 

This park offers a pavilion with picnic tables, a playground, and baseball and football fields.

 

Harris Hill Manor

Palisades Boulevard, Big Flats

 

This park has a basketball court, charcoal grills, and a pavilion with picnic tables.

 

Pine Circle Park

Pine Circle Ext., Big Flats

 

This neighborhood park has a basketball court, a picnic pavilion with tables, and a playground.

 

Reynolds Park

Lyons Drive and Groff Road, Big Flats

 

This park has a picnic pavilion with tables and grills, playground equipment and a basketball court.

 

TAB Church

Hibbard Road, Big Flats

 

This park has baseball and softball fields.

 

Whitney Park

Chambers Road, Big Flats

 

This park has a pavilion with picnic tables and charcoal grills and playground equipment.

 

Henry Minier Athletic Field

Route 352, Big Flats

 

This large park has multiple soccer, baseball, and softballs fields and pavilions.

 

Sen. William T. Smith Boat Launch

Behind Henry Minier Athletic Field, Route 352, Big Flats

 

The boat launch is named after Sen. Smith who lived near the park. There is a concrete boat launch and a restroom at the site.

 

Bottcher’s Landing Boat Launch

Entrance at approximately 149 S. Corning Rd., Big Flats

 

The site offers a pavilion with picnic tables, an informational kiosk, and a concrete boat ramp.

 

Fitch's Bridge Boat Launch

Route 225, Big Flats

 

This boat launch has an informational kiosk.

Harris Hill

This county park offers picnic tables, pavilions, grills, a swimming pool, a three-hole golf course, a playground, 400 acres of wooded trails for hiking, and a scenic overlook with benches and swings.

At the top of Harris Hill, visitors will find the National Soaring Museum and the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation which offers glider rides for a fee.

​

The Harris Hill Amusement Park is located at 557 Harris Hill Road and offers pay-as-you-go attractions and rides.

Plymouth Woods Nature Preserve

Kneale Road, Big Flats

In 2003, Elmira physician Dr. Edward Grandt donated 88 acres of land to the Finger Lakes Land Trust. Visitors can hike 1.6 miles of marked trails through a mature oak-hickory forest.

 

Steege Hill Nature Preserve

Steege Hill Road, Big Flats

The 793-acre nature preserve has 6.4 miles of trails that can be used for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Visitors should be aware of the presence of timber rattlesnakes on the preserve.
