Art Masterpieces on Stamps

Harriet Nichols, lifelong Horseheads resident and artist, donated this collection of Art on Stamps to the Horseheads Historical Society. From 1952 to 1979, she created works of art based on stamps. The collection is made up of 1,115 pieces of art. Each piece has a stamp as its centerpiece surrounded by Nichols' own delicate and original painted designs that compliment the beauty and theme of the subject. The collection includes stamps from all around the world featuring famous paintings, drawings, sculpture, and folk art from pre-historic cave art to 20th century works. Harriet Nichols passed away on December 27, 1990 at the age of 95.

Please explore the works of this prolific local artist here and come see the pieces in person at the Horseheads Historical Society at 312 W. Broad Street in Horseheads, New York.

Hannah Page, intern at the Chemung County Historical Society, scanned all 1,115 works of art and created this website. Thank you, Hannah!
